OutdoorNebraska.gov | 83 ARBOR LODGE STATE HISTORICAL PARK T his beautiful estate in Nebraska City was home to J. Sterling Morton, founder of Arbor Day. From its beginning in 1855 as a four-room frame house, the magnificent mansion grew to 52 rooms through several additions. Authentic furnishings grace the rooms, and displays capture the life and times of this exceptional man and his notable family. A collection of antique carriages and wagons are displayed in the carriage house. Tours of the mansion and strolls through the arboretum and formal rose garden are a must. Picnic areas are provided. Living History Days occur in late September/early October, offering a look back at the trades and crafts of yesteryear. The park and mansion are also available for weddings and other private events. HOURS AND ADMISSION FEES Grounds and arboretum are open year-round. The mansion is open April through December. A park entry permit is not required. Admission fees are charged for adults and children age 3-12. Children age 2 and younger are admitted for free. Arbor Lodge State Historical Park is managed by the Arbor Day Foundation. Blue River SRA is located 9 miles south of the I-80 Seward exit 379. Picnicking is permitted, though no tables, shelters or grills are provided.
