48 | Parks Info: 402-471-0641 M iddle Phillips Canyon SRA is located approximately 8 miles south of Lexington on Hwy 283. This area provides boating access in a scenic canyon setting with opportunities for fishing and outdoor recreation. All boat types are allowed. A concrete boat ramp, boat dock, ADA-accessible parking, a vault toilet and picnic tables are available. FISHING Middle Phillips Canyon offers crappie, bluegill, channel catfish, flathead catfish, freshwater drum, carp and sauger. This recreation area packs a lot of fun into 68 acres and provides multiple access points to the 2,068- acre lake. Johnson Lake SRA offers Electric Plus, Electric and Basic camping along with modern showers and restrooms. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring/grill. There is an unsupervised swimming beach with an adjacent picnic area for fun summertime barbecues. Family and friends can gather for picnics at Johnson Lake, which has many picnic tables, grills and seven shelters. Additional Primitive camping is available at 24-acre Gallagher Canyon SRA, south of Cozad. Some good fishing and hunting (in season) can also be found at nearby Elwood Reservoir Wildlife Management Area, south of Johnson Lake. Elwood has 579 land acres and a 1,330-acre lake. FISHING Walleye, sauger, white bass, wiper, crappie, catfish and smallmouth bass are abundant. Nearby Elwood Reservoir offers walleye, wiper, white bass, carp, channel catfish, spotted bass, muskie and northern pike.
