50 2025–2030 SCORP
SUPPLY
The Nebraska Natural Legacy Project is part of a
nationwide effort to address the needs of declining
wildlife populations. The mission of the Nebraska
Natural Legacy Project is to conserve Nebraska's
flora, fauna, and natural habitats through the
proactive, voluntary conservation actions of partners,
communities and individuals. This 10-year plan
addresses outdoor recreation as a valuable tool to
aid in conservation and can be an asset for those
planning outdoor recreation projects.
Building appropriate conservation elements into a
project supports sustainable use of the land, not only
for the environment but for long term management
of outdoor recreation. For example, green stormwater
infrastructure manages runoff naturally, reducing
flooding and pollution.
Ecoregions of Nebraska
Ecologically, the Nebraska landscape provides an array of outdoor recreation opportunities. Prairies,
sandhills, ridges, bluffs and forests are all part of Nebraska. These differing landscapes are called
ecoregions. Nebraska consists of four ecoregions. Considering the landscape or ecoregion along with
the demographics of a region will enhance the recreation planning process. Understanding the natural
resources of an area allows for data-driven decision making by incorporating the natural environment
into outdoor recreation development.
Green stormwater infrastructure
manages stormwater runoff by
using nature-based solutions such
as plants, soils and permeable
surfaces.
