BUILD YOUR TEAM
The key to success is building a dynamic
team. You need one another in order to realize
the vision of a sustainable trail or trail system
that serves your community. There is a direct
correlation between the quality of the project
partnerships and the success of the trail
development process.
Start with your core team. These are the
people that will be part of the process from
beginning to end. The capacity of each core team
member is going to be different. Understanding
this is key to prevent frustration, burn out,
and overcommitment, which can threaten the
success of your project. Identifying roles early
on, for each team member, is important to
ensure you have the capacity you need to be
successful.
The size of your core team can be as few or
many people that you feel would be successful
for your project. Larger teams may need to be
split into sub-groups with specific tasks. Identify
a strong personal champion or advocate for
the project.
Once you have a core team together, create
a list of potential stakeholders and partners.
With this list, gather your team and discuss.
Curate the list based on the different viewpoints
represented.
