I have spent my entire week answering the phone. Almost every one of those calls was inquiring whether the spring, put & take trout had been stocked in one favorite waterbody or another. I guess I understand, we have not published the exact dates of those stockings. In the crazy coronavirus world we continue to live in, we do not want crowds gathering around stocking trucks. So, the stocking schedule only says “The week of _______”.
I swear, if we had GPS trackers on our stocking trucks, there would be a convoy of vehicles following them around.
When the stockings are done, they are entered into our stocking database. If you keep a close eye on that, you will know if they have been stocked or if the truck is still coming. Oh, and again let me remind folks that when we publish a stocking schedule, it is only an estimate. Things happen, things change, tires go flat, trucks break down, waters rise and fall. Some stockings do not happen exactly when we thought they would. Regardless, when the fish are stocked, they will be in the database.
However, I gotta tell you there is one thing I do not understand. . . . So many folks ask if such-and-such a place has been stocked with the trout yet; I look it up, tell ’em “no, not yet”. Understandably they are disappointed, and then they say they are not going fishing until the stocking truck shows up.
What? Are you kidding????!!!!!
You are like looking for excuses NOT to go fishing?
I don’t get it!

So what if the stocking truck has not delivered the spring, put & take trout? Fish for some other species of fish. Fish for trout that were stocked last fall. Try a different body of water. Whatever you do, JUST GO FISH!

GO FISH!
Successful fishing is always about adapting and adjusting. Try new waters, fish for different species, master new gear or a new presentation. You may just find out that something is always biting. Might learn something new. You might even become a better angler!
