Two Rivers SRA Announces New Summer Speaker Series

LINCOLN – Learn about leather working, bats, raptors and Teddy Roosevelt during a new speaker series this summer at Two Rivers State Recreation Area (SRA). 

Programs will take place evenings during June, July and August. All programs are family-friendly and offered free-of-charge to park visitors. 

Programs scheduled for this summer are:

June 25, 6:30-7:30 p.m.:  Tandy Leather will give a presentation on the variety of uses of leather, as well as on how to make products from leather. At the end of the presentation, kids will make a cowhide bookmark that they can take home.

July 9, 9-10 p.m.:  Michael Whitby of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will give a presentation on bats.  If you do not know much about bats, and you have always wanted to learn about them, this hands-on presentation is a great way for people of all ages to do so.

July 16, 7-8 p.m.:  Historian, actor and entertainer Darrell Draper will present as Teddy Roosevelt. Travel back in time, and learn about Mr. Roosevelt’s greatest adventures.

July 23, 6:30-7:30 p.m.: Tandy Leather will give a presentation on the variety of uses of leather, as well as on how to make products from leather. At the end of the presentation, kids will make a cowhide bookmark that they can take home.

Aug. 6, 2-4 p.m.:  Raptor Recovery will present about birds of prey, and they’ll even bring some to real ones too! After the talk, kids will get the chance to dissect owl pellets, as well.

Aug. 20, 6:30-7:30 p.m.: Tandy Leather will give a presentation on the variety of uses of leather, as well as on how to make products from leather.  At the end of the presentation, kids will make a cowhide bookmark that they can take home.

Two Rivers SRA is located near Venice in western Douglas County. A valid Nebraska park entry permit is required for each vehicle entering the park. For more information, call the park at 402-359-5165.
