More Boat Access Work at Merritt

As is often the case with my Monday blog posts, I am just trying to spread the word.  Here is the news release that recently went out:

Main ramp area upgrades continue at Merritt SRA

Declining water levels at Merritt Reservoir State Recreation Area near Valentine has provided the opportunity for additional upgrades to the main ramp area. The work will result in temporary closure of the ramp.

Upgrades include extending the concrete boat ramp to accommodate safe low-water elevation launching, installing a new dock and rail system, and extending the breakwater off Willow Cove to protect the ramp area.

Construction will take place over the next few weeks, weather and water-level depending.

The Beeds Landing and Cedar Bay boat ramps remain open and usable at the state recreation area. Smaller vessels also can use the Powderhorn ramp.

Find a map of the available boat ramps at OutdoorNebraska.org/MerrittReservoir.

The project is funded by the Aquatic Habitat Program, supported by anglers through the purchase of the Aquatic Habitat Stamp. The program restores water bodies, but also improves boat and angler access. Learn more at OutdoorNebraska.org/AquaticHabitatProgram.

For questions about this project, email ngpc.boataccess@nebraska.gov.

As the news release said, this work is a continuation of recent improvements that have been done at the “main” boat ramp area.  Work can be done only when water levels are down at the end of summer.  Hopefully, this work at the end of this summer will finish up the improvements there.

Boat access will still be available at Merritt this fall.  Plan your trips accordingly.
