Highlighting another news item today. No, it will not interest a lot of you, but I know it will be of much interest for some of you:
Gracie Creek Pond set to reopen to anglers
The Gracie Creek Pond rehabilitation project is nearing completion, and the area once again will be open for anglers to pursue rainbow trout.
The pond is located in the northwest corner of Calamus Reservoir along Highway 96. It was severely damaged from flooding and sedimentation in 2019 and has been restored to its original size and depth.
This project includes a sediment trap dike along the upstream end of the pond and angler access improvements below the outlet. Approximately 1,500 10-inch rainbow trout will be stocked Nov. 21 and 22 from the Grove Trout Rearing Station and Calamus Hatchery, and fishing will be reopened at that time.
Funding for the project was provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s Aquatic Habitat Fund.
Let me include some pictures:
This project included some work on the channel below the pond. That work should protect the dam structures and improve flows during high water periods. In addition it should improve shoreline fishing access to that popular area.
All of the photos were taken by Jeff Schuckman. Thanks, Jeff!
I know some of you will be able to get on the pond this week and take advantage of the trout fishing. Just in time for Thanksgiving!
