LINCOLN – Gov. Pete Ricketts appointed Donna Kush of Omaha, a corporate leader in public affairs, policy, communications and marketing, to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission to represent District 2 (Douglas County).
Kush is president and chief executive officer of the Omaha Community Foundation, one of the largest community foundations in the nation. She has more than 28 years of corporate experience, building and restructuring organizations, developing strategic plans and initiatives, leading public-private partnerships, and managing crisis situations.
“Donna is a well-respected member of the community. Her experience in building successful public-private partnerships and love of the outdoors will provide great value for the Game and Parks Commission,” Ricketts said. “As the Commission continues to expand its educational resources and programs for teachers, parents and families as well as broaden outreach to diverse audiences, her skills will help the Commission in fulfilling this important part of its mission.”
Kush, a native of Monroe, Nebraska, said hunting, fishing, camping, and an appreciation of the outdoors very much were part of her family and the culture in which she grew up. She enjoys hiking, stand-up paddle boarding, and other recreational activities.
“It is an honor to be considered for the Game and Parks Commission, such a central part of our state’s outdoors and sports culture and future,” Kush said. “Now, more than ever, because of the pandemic, we have the opportunity to demonstrate the numerous facilities and features to an even wider audience who is looking for recreation and activities that are outdoors, safe, and close to home.”
Kush has a passion for supporting youth and entrepreneurs. She currently chairs the Omaha Sports Commission and SHARE Omaha, and serves on the Invest Nebraska board of directors.
“Donna has many talents, including tremendous business acumen and communications expertise,” Commission Director Jim Douglas said. “She holds a great passion for outdoor recreation and interest in providing opportunities for the next generation. We are pleased to welcome her and look forward to working together as we serve Nebraska’s citizens and visitors.”
Kush’s appointment, subject to approval by the Nebraska Legislature, will be effective May 7, 2020 – Jan. 15, 2024. She succeeds Dick Bell of Omaha on the board.
