Try to solve a mystery by participating in the Fort Atkinson Candlelight Tour – The Demise of Lt. Gabriel Field on Nov. 5.
Lt. Field was a former soldier who was injured outside the fort, then rescued and returned to the fort. A guide will lead visitors on a 90-minute walking tour from room to room in the fort, where reenactors will portray events that would have taken place. By only communicating with the guide, visitors will try to learn what happened to Lt. Field.
Reservations for this event, from 6-9 p.m., are required and can be made by calling 402-630-0316. Proceeds will help support the Living History Program at Fort Atkinson State Historical Park. The cost is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $15 for ages 12 and under.
Flash photography, flashlights and pets are not allowed.
Fort Atkinson State Historical Park is located seven blocks east of U.S. Highway 75 near Fort Calhoun. Its grounds feature the site of Fort Atkinson, which was the first U.S. military post established west of the Missouri River.
A valid state park entry permit is required for each vehicle.
