Celebrate the fall season with fun Game and Parks events

LINCOLN, Neb. – State parks and historical parks across Nebraska are planning events throughout the fall season to help visitors enjoy this beautiful time of year.

Events span a wide variety of interests, including outdoor recreation, wildlife viewing, stargazing, living history, shooting sports and photography.

Among the activities slated for this fall:

— 14th Annual Missouri River Outdoor Expo, Ponca State Park (SP), Ponca, Sept. 15-16 – Celebrate our outdoor heritage with more than 90 hands-on demonstrations, exhibits, vendors and all-day entertainment. Activities include kayaking, shooting sports, fishing, outdoor cooking and more.

— Bioblitz, Indian Cave SP, Shubert, Sept. 21-22 – Both kids and adults will enjoy aiding scientists in finding and recording the flora and fauna living in this beautiful park.

— Wild Game Cooking Presentation, Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center, Lincoln, Oct. 4 – Award-winning blogger Hank Shaw will hold a seminar on how hunters can get more out of their wild game and fish through new cooking tips and techniques.

— Heritage Days, Fort Atkinson State Historical Park, Fort Calhoun, Oct. 6-7 – Nebraska history comes to life through hands-on learning demonstrations, children’s games, traditional foods and music, with reenactors portraying 19th century skills and trades.

A park permit is required for each vehicle entering the park.
