Grab the popcorn and enjoy some light-hearted family fun at a Eugene T. Mahoney State Park melodrama this summer. The melodramas are designed to provide wholesome, family-orientated entertainment.
This year’s schedule, which runs May 27-Aug. 21, features the premiere of three plays:
- “The Dragon Slayer,” written by Julie Eschliman, tells the tale of two damsels in distress – and their pet dragon. See if a wandering minstrel can save them from a bloodthirsty dragon slayer.
- “Something’s Rotten in Green Bend,” also written by Eschliman, features a story of Holly, an enthusiastic community theater manager. When a Shakespearean troupe – comprised of one family – comes to town, it brings plenty of drama for Holly to handle.
- “Rustlers of Red Rock,” written by D. Chapelle, follows lovely young rancher Blossom White, and all of Red Rock County, as they suffer a rash of rustling by a notorious bad man. See if the handsome ranch hand can save her in time.

Ticket prices are $9 for adults, $7 for ages 12 and under, and $28 for families of two adults and two children under 12. Present a theater ticket at The View at Mahoney restaurant, located inside Peter Kiewit Lodge, on the day of the show and receive 10% off the cost of your entrée.
