I hear that tomorrow is National Hunting and Fishing Day. Sounds like a great idea to me! As a matter of fact, with our diversity of hunting and fishing opportunities, I believe Nebraska is the perfect place to spend some time outdoors doing both! Fall is the perfect time to do that. Let me offer my kid’s recent adventures as proof. . . .
Last weekend both of my kids were in western parts of Nebraska. First, I got a message from my son that he had punched his muzzleloader pronghorn tag:
I will not share a lot of details of the hunt. I am kicking myself that I did not venture out to go along with him. Can tell you he put in his time scouting before the season even opened. Opening morning it was just a matter of working into position to get a shot. That took a while, but before noon he was texting me!
By that evening, I was getting texts from my daughter and son-in-law. They were catching brook trout!
Again, I was extremely jealous that I was not there.
Never fear, the “old man” has been on the water too.
By the way, I know our fall weather so far has been hot. But, if you have been waiting for the fall bite to start. You are too late, it has already started, a long time ago.
It is going to be a great weekend. You better find some time to be on the water, in the field, or both!
