Fort Robinson State Park will celebrate the many quilters who have donated their creations to be used in the park’s lodging facilities this summer.
Becky Serres, the park superintendent who is in charge of housekeeping, is planning a public tea June 4 from 1-4 p.m. in the Buffalo Soldiers Barracks just west of the park’s headquarters. The event is open to the public free of charge and the quilters have received an invitation to attend.
“We received some really great quilts and the public should take this opportunity to see them before they go on the beds,” Serres said.
During the past year, Serres put out a call for people to donate quilts to be used in the fort’s lodging facilities and reached the project’s goal with pledges for about 30. The quilts are being placed on beds in two of the fort’s officers’ quarters, the big brick buildings at the west end of the fort’s horseshoe drive are popular for family reunions and other large groups.
While the event is open to the public free of charge, a Nebraska park entry permit is required for vehicles. It may be purchased online at outdoornebraska.com, the park’s headquarters or other vendors across the state.
