LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s Family Fishing event scheduled for July 20 at Lincoln’s Bowling Lake has been canceled because of expected excessive heat.
The final Family Fishing event in Lincoln this summer will be Aug. 4 at Holmes Lake. Upcoming events in the Omaha area will be July 19 at Zorinsky Lake, July 28 at Benson Park, and Aug. 2 at Prairie Queen Lake. The events will run 6-8 p.m.
Other remaining Family Fishing events this summer are (6-8 p.m. unless noted): July 22, Melham Park, Broken Bow; July 23, Victoria Springs State Recreation Area (SRA), Anselmo; Aug. 3, Mormon Island SRA, Grand Island; Aug. 5, Iron Horse Lake, North Platte; Aug. 12, Fort Kearny SRA, Kearney; Aug. 13, Swanson Reservoir SRA, Trenton, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.; Aug. 14, Terry’s Pit, Terrytown, 5-7 p.m.; Sept. 10, Barnett Park, McCook, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; Sept. 11, Zoo Pond, Scottsbluff, 5-7 p.m.
Family Fishing events provide opportunities for people of all ages who have never fished or have not fished in years to learn and enjoy the activity. Rods and reels, as well as bait and fishing instruction, are available for free. Look for the Family Fishing trailer at each site. Appropriate fishing and park permits are required.
