LINCOLN, Neb. – Stretch your legs and explore Ponca State Park’s beautiful landscapes by participating in the Hiking Marathon Challenge.
Now through March 11, the public is invited to hike each of the park’s nine trails – about 22 miles in total – for the chance to win a door prize. All ages are welcome to participate.
The Hiking Marathon Challenge can be completed individually or with family and friends. Guided hikes will be held on the following dates:
Jan. 7 – Bloodroot Trail, 1.6 miles, rated easy; Jan. 21 – Buffalo Run Trail, 3.4 miles, moderate; Jan. 28 – Prairie Loop Trail, 1 mile, easy; Feb. 4 – Bigley’s Ravine Trail, 2.1 miles, moderate; Feb. 11 – Backwater Trail, 4 miles, easy; Feb. 18 – Corps of Discovery Trail, 1.4 miles, moderate; Feb. 25 – Whitetail Trail, 0.8 miles, moderate; March 3 – Overlook Trail, 1.2 miles, moderate
Guided hikes will meet at the Resource and Education Center at 2 p.m. Record your completed hikes at the Resource and Education Center, open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
