Don’t Be Stupid

April 14, 2021 daryl bauer

I heard another report from the weekend that brings to light another topic I have blogged about before, going to again. . . .

Some of you may know what I am talking about; apparently, a couple of kayak anglers were able to aid another kayaker who had capsized.  First of all, THANK YOU GUYS!  Thanks for being aware, thanks for being prepared, thanks for helping!  WELL DONE!

Now, I know everyone wants to be on the water this time of year.  I also know some afternoons are very nice.  As a matter of fact, I spent an 85-degree afternoon fishing just recently.

But the water ain’t that warm!  Fall into that cold water right now and you are going to discover you cannot swim very well.  Maybe you should be wearing your life jacket??!!!!

Kayaking without wearing a life jacket?  In April?  Don’t be stupid.

Those of you in bigger boats might be a little more safe, but I continue to see lone fishermen, not wearing their life jacket.

Don’t be stupid.

I know, the law does not require the life jacket to be worn (unless you are age 12 or younger).  But, the life jacket does you no good unless you wear it.  Fall into that cold water and it may be a lot harder to keep your head above water and slip the life jacket on than you thought.  Wear it!

While on the subject.  The Omaha World-Herald recently ran this article, “$4.99 Piece of Equipment Could Have Saved Nebraska Boater from His ‘Circle of Death’ Wounds”.  Read it!

There are new rules on the use of kill switches.  I cannot explain the new rules nor how those are going to be enforced.  The newspaper article tries to explain it.  I do not care.  Makes no matter.  I can explain it this way:  Don’t be stupid, use the kill switch!

You see the problem is all too often it is the sons and the daughters, the wives and loved ones that have to live with your stupidity.
