CHADRON — A free workshop will help participants gain knowledge to harvest deer. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s Learn-to-Hunt Deer Workshop will be at Chadron State College’s Burkhiser Complex on Thursday, Oct. 27, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Justin Powell of Alliance and Rick Arnold of Chadron, both avid deer hunters who are wildlife biologists for the Commission, will discuss a wide range of topics to help participants be successful, including strategies, proper gear and deer behavior. Tactics for both firearms and archery will be covered with information targeted to both experienced deer hunters and novices.

The event, which is just one in a series of workshops being presented at locations throughout the state, is being cosponsored by the Chadron State College Wildlife Club.

Although free, participants are asked to register online so organizers can make appropriate preparations. Registration may be accessed from the calendar link at the Commission’s website, outdoornebraska.org.

Nebraska offers a variety of ways for hunters to harvest both white-tailed and mule deer from early fall well into winter. The most popular deer season, the November firearm season, runs from Nov. 12-20. Archery season began Sept. 1 and runs through the end of the year. The muzzleloader season is Dec. 1-31 and a late firearm season is set Jan. 1-15, 2017.

To purchase permits and find other information, visit the Commission’s website.
