Christiancy wins 2017 Cornhusker Cup

May 7, 2017 Jerry Kane

DONIPHAN, Neb. – Trent Christiancy of Young Guns 4-H of Hildreth ruled the field Saturday in the senior high competition of the 48th Cornhusker Cup.

His handicap score of 74 of 75 was the day’s best. Combined with the 73 he shot at 16 yards on Friday, it propelled him to the Cornhusker Cup with a 147.

Blair’s Weston Zolck finished second overall at 145 after taking second Friday at 16 yards.

Christiancy finished sixth overall last year, and was the 2013 junior high champion. Keenan Kremke of Karp & Krow 4-H of Ord/Burwell was the last shooter to win both junior high (2010) and Cornhusker Cup (2013) titles.

Last year’s Cornhusker Cup winner, Blair’s Billy Miller, shot a 140.

Erin Muntz of Louisville had a great shoot, as well. She had the ladies’ best handicap score at 72 on Saturday and the top overall ladies’ score at 144. Those efforts helped her Louisville Purple team win the overall high school and handicap team championships. Joining her on those winning teams were Connor Voigtman, Dagen Voigtman, Chase Dittberner and Mason Maher.

Papillion-LaVista dominated the ladies’ team competition. The Monarch Lady team of Madeline Wilson, Amanda Kennick, Nikayla Lambert, Zoe Timberlake, Coco White won the overall title and the handicap crown. The top 4-H teams were Ashland (overall) and Karp & Krow 2 (handicap).

The three-day event drew 843 junior high and 1,641 senior high shooters.
