“Blinded Me With Science”–Missouri River Pallid Sturgeon

August 31, 2020 daryl bauer

I have not done a blog post on a fisheries science topic in a while.  Time to dust off the theme song, if you want, listen while you read, She Blinded Me with Science, Thomas Dolby.

Got another link for you to follow.  This one about some research that has been done on pallid sturgeon in our stretch of the Missouri River.  I found an excellent article in the Nebraska City News Press.  No, I am not going to copy and paste the article here, going to ask you to follow the link, Downstream effects:  Sturgeon lifespan, fertility vary strikingly with river conditions.

Take the time and read the newspaper article.  It is very interesting.  Some things I made notice of is how adaptable, “plastic” wild critters can be, pallid sturgeon in this case.  Unfortunately, the endangered pallid sturgeon in our Missouri River have to be adaptable to survive in a very much man-altered environment.  Those alterations have some impacts that you would not expect.  However, knowing that, we can do better and hopefully help the pallid sturgeon to recover.
