44 Nebraska Game and Parks Commission • Floating The Good Life Figure 13: Landing and Ramp Combined Figure 14: Standard Site with Motorboat Access Approximate Site Area Required: 4 Acres A water trail access with a level of service for multiple users and watercraft types provides well-defined circulation, loading, and parking to accommodate single vehicles and trailer vehicles. The river approach and launch facilitates both vehicle and pedestrian use. A pathway at 5% slope provides an accessible route to the launch. Day use amenities include restrooms and picnic seating for public use. A conservation buffer and shoreline stabilization protect the waterfront and preserve the beauty of the site. The example shown is best suited for waterbodies where motorboats are frequently used. STANDARD PROVISION WITH PUBLIC MOTORBOAT ACCESS SITE Entry off of public roadway with placement and design standards approved by governing engineer Parking and two-way circulation for single vehicles and trailer vehicles; landscape islands to define circulation and provide shade trees; accessible parking spaces placed closest to staging and river approach Loading and staging area adjacent to water approach avoiding obstructing vehicular circulation Dedicated motorboat tie-down lane not in conflict with drive lanes and defined with signage Site signage clearly visible from public roadway and complying with local ordinances Single slip motorboat ramp access with 16' minimum with and 14% slope Accessible pathway not exceeding 5% slope and 5' minimum width Picnic table seating overlooking water with optional shelter alternative shown Restroom with vault toilet structure option shown Two-tiered constructed landing for use during varied river flow elevations; lower landing recommended to be 40' long and 7' wide and upper landing recommended to be 20' long and 7' wide Natural shore river launch option shown provided suitable river characteristics and riverbank topography is available Shoreline stabilization measures to restore from construction activity and unstable embankments along property frontage Conservation buffer from seasonal average high water mart (frequently top of riverbank) with parking and day use setback at recommended 50' to filter stormwater runoff, protect riverbank and riparian vegetation, and preserve scenic view from river A A B B C C D D E E F F G G H H I I J J K K L L L M M LANDING AND RAMP COMBINED LAUNCH ALTERNATIVE A variety of alternatives for the approach and launch allows multiple types of users to simultaneously access and exit the river. However, alternatives should only be explored when existing site conditions and project budget allow. Careful consideration ACCESSIBLE WALK from drop- off and staging area to landing launch should be constructed with 5% maximum slope to the greatest extent possible and provide a 5' minimum width (6' to 8'width recommended). STAGING AREAS can be used for gear and watercraft as site topography and site construction limits allow. CONCRETE RAMP material is shown for vehicle use and ease of clearing sediment with equipment. CONCRETE PLANKS can be prefabricated and cabled together below water level. RIVERBANK STABILIZATION is essential to restore areas disturbed by construction and is recommended for unstable riverbanks within property frontage to reduce progressive erosion. RAMPS extending to the river channel bottom provide stabilization and protection against scouring actions. should be given to the site's natural features, as the need to maximize access may have detrimental impacts to riverbank stability and views from the water. 5' Minimum 16' Recommended Minimum 7' Minimum 40' Recommended 14% Slope TWO-TIERED LANDING provides use during varied river flow elevations.
