Floating The Good Life • Nebraska Game and Parks Commission 43 S I T E A L T E R N A T I V E S Figures 12-18 illustrate various types of launch sites that may be used, depending upon the situation. When planning for your site, review the possibilities and select what would fit best within the parameters of your site and what would accomplish your goals. Do not limit your project to what you see here; these are examples to get you thinking about some of the possibilities. KAYAKING AT THE NEBRASKA 4-H CAMP NEAR HALSEY Figure 12: Large Motorboat Access Site Approximate Site Area Required: 7 Acres A water trail access with a level of service for multiple users and watercraft types is shown for higher motorboat volumes. The site requires well-defined circulation, loading, and parking to accommodate different users and vehicle types. River approach and launch facilitates both vehicle and pedestrian use. Three ramps are shown to allow simultaneous use for multiple users. In addition to the paddle sport ramp approach at 14% slope, a less steep pathway provides access at a gentle 5% slope. Day use amenities provide restrooms and picnic seating. A conservation buffer and shoreline stabilization protect the waterfront, and preserve the site's beauty. The example shown is best suited for lakes or larger river access where motorboat usage is most frequent. Entry off of public roadway with placement and design standards approved by governing engineer Parking and two-way circulation for single vehicles and trailer vehicles; landscape islands to define circulation and provide shade trees; accessible parking spaces placed closest to staging and river approach Loading and staging area adjacent to water approach avoiding obstructing vehicular circulation Motorboat tie-down areas along outside drive lanes and defined with signage Site signage clearly visible from public roadway and complying with local ordinances Multiple slip motorboat ramp access (3 slips shown) with minimum slip width of 16' Accessible pathway with 5' minimum width not exceeding 5% slope Picnic table seating overlooking water with optional shelter amenity shown Restroom with vault toilet structure option shown Constructed landing option shown at 40' long by 7' wide minimum size Natural shore river launch option shown provided suitable river characteristics and riverbank topography is available Shoreline stabilization measures to restore from construction activity and unstable embankments along property frontage Conservation buffer from seasonal average high water mark (frequently top of riverbank) with parking and day use setback at recommended 50' to filter stormwater runoff, protect riverbank and riparian vegetation, and preserve scenic view from river A A B B B C C D D D E E F F G G H H I I J J K K L L L M M STANDARD PROVISION WITH PUBLIC MOTORBOAT ACCESS SITE
