16 Nebraska Game and Parks Commission • 2018-2022 Focus on the Future Nebraska's state parks, recreation areas, historical parks, trails, and wildlife management areas connect children, families and friends to the outdoors. These areas give visitors a place to play, experience nature, develop outdoor skills, and learn about the natural world and our history. We are committed to providing quality recreation and excellent customer service at these areas. Management of natural resources and infrastructure on agency-owned and managed areas is a high priority. A comprehensive assessment of our assets is necessary to understand these resources' needs. When there are opportunities to expand and diversify our public properties, we should weigh the costs and benefits of future land acquisitions and/or development. Capital expenditures, operating and maintenance costs, deferred maintenance costs, and appropriate recreational facility development must be considered. We recognize that the outdoor recreation we manage features a wide variety of opportunities and experiences, and each area cannot be all things to all people.
