14 Nebraska Game and Parks Commission • 2018-2022 Focus on the Future Conserving and fostering healthy ecosystems benefits Nebraska's fish, wildlife and outdoor recreational opportunities and our citizens. Plant and animal populations are a part of a dynamic and changing ecosystem. Their numbers rise and fall naturally and they are interrelated to the environment. We must work with partners and encourage the conservation and management of public and private land and water. Threats to healthy ecosystems range from habitat loss, invasive species, pollution, disease, and other challenges. When there is a reduction in habitat diversity or function, these changes can jeopardize the stability and productivity of the communities. Diverse populations of fish, wildlife, and plants are essential to providing a healthy ecosystem, which can be maintained by minimizing threats. We must maintain access to land and water resources to ensure the public's enjoyment into the future.
