Ownership: Lower Big Blue NRD Potential Partners: Lower Big Blue NRD Cottontail Lake (Lancaster County) Cottontail Lake is 29 surface acres and owned by the Lower Platte South NRD The reservoir offers anglers a good fishing resource for the Lincoln area; however, it is shallow due to years of sediment accumulation which resulting in numerous fish kills. The project should enhance the average depth, extend the current boat ramp and add angler access, which would significantly improve the overall fishing experience. Goals: Habitat, Access Tasks: a. Targeted sediment removal to restore storage capacity and enhance angler access areas. b. Improve shoreline access with bump outs, jetties and docks. c. Upgrade boating launch facilities to improve launching during low water. d. A dd sediment dike to maintain and improve water quality. Ownership: Lower Platte South NRD Potential Partners: Lower Platte South NRD, NGPC Wildlife Division. East and West Twin Reservoirs WMA (Seward County) East Twin Reservoir is 233 acres and located 3 miles north of Pleasant Dale. The reservoir was impounded in 1966 and since then has experienced notable sedimentation and habitat loss. A 2021 technical memorandum from JEO Engineering revealed that the lake has lost about 50% of its original storage capacity of 2,850 acre-feet. This project aims to address these issues by removing sediment, enhancing storage capacity, reducing sedimentation rates, updating outdated infrastructure, improving angler access, and boosting fishing opportunities. Goals: Habitat, Access, Prevention Tasks: a. Targeted sediment removal to restore storage capacity and enhance angler access areas. b. Reduce sedimentation rate to main reservoir with construction of a dike and sediment removal. c. Replace boat ramp facilities to improve access for launching. d. Improve shoreline access with bump outs, jetties and docks. e. Chemical renovation of fish population to improve sportfish populations. f. Enhance in-lake fish habitat using cedar trees and artificial structures. N N N
