These passionate and dedicated volunteers support conservation in Nebraska through environmental education and interpretation, habitat stewardship, community science, and outdoor skills and recreation. Their eff orts contribute to habitat restoration on private or public land, ecological monitoring, outdoor expos, interpretive trail guides, naturalist education for those of all ages and so much more. The hands-on and immersive trainings to become a Master Naturalist are available four times a year, and in 2024, 45 new Master Naturalists joined the ranks of over 700 Nebraskans who have contributed more than 100,000 volunteer hours in support of conservation eff orts across our prairie state since the program began. Prescribed burn training and workshops The agency and its partners provide training for staff , landowners and public fi re safety, about fi re behavior and techniques to safely conduct controlled burns. Controlled burns are an essential habitat management practice, helping to reduce invasive species, increase vegetation for bird and mammals and reducing debris that can fuel destructive wildfi re. Hundreds of people attended prescribed fi re trainings hosted by Game and Parks and its natural resources partners in 2024. Education and outreach events Engaging people in our mission means going to where people are and responding to what interests them. Education, outreach and public events are paramount to fulling our mission of stewardship. Attendees help clear trash from the water at the Kayak Clean-up at Holmes Lake in Lincoln.
