Game and Parks provides public access for outdoor recreation and recruits people to outdoor
participation. It is equally important to create communities for people to belong to so they
continue their journeys outdoors, stay safe and have the outdoor skills to ensure satisfying
experiences. The agency has many programs that invite people to learn about conservation and
outdoor activities, try them for the first time, learn alongside a certified instructor or volunteer, or
expand skills in hands-on workshops, trainings and programs.
Nebraska state parks provide hundreds of events annually that welcome everyone to learn about
the natural world — or try new activities. These include guided hikes, fishing, shooting sports, trail
runs, star gazing, bird watching and more.
Community fishing nights are hosted in cities across the state, and volunteers provide all the
equipment and assistance for attendees to learn to fish. Hunter education certifies students to
safely handle firearms, hunt and be responsible in the field. Programs like Outdoor Discovery
Program introduce youth to nature and provide interactive, hands-on learning of activities such
as archery, kayaking, fishing and wildlife identification. Becoming an Outdoors-Woman programs
invite women to try recreational activities and provide a network of support and hassle-free
opportunities to advance skills to new levels, including mentored hunts.
