Pick your outdoor skills experience Game and Parks provides public access for outdoor recreation and recruits people to outdoor participation. It is equally important to create communities for people to belong to so they continue their journeys outdoors, stay safe and have the outdoor skills to ensure satisfying experiences. The agency has many programs that invite people to learn about conservation and outdoor activities, try them for the first time, learn alongside a certified instructor or volunteer, or expand skills in hands-on workshops, trainings and programs. Nebraska state parks provide hundreds of events annually that welcome everyone to learn about the natural world — or try new activities. These include guided hikes, fishing, shooting sports, trail runs, star gazing, bird watching and more. Community fishing nights are hosted in cities across the state, and volunteers provide all the equipment and assistance for attendees to learn to fish. Hunter education certifies students to safely handle firearms, hunt and be responsible in the field. Programs like Outdoor Discovery Program introduce youth to nature and provide interactive, hands-on learning of activities such as archery, kayaking, fishing and wildlife identification. Becoming an Outdoors-Woman programs invite women to try recreational activities and provide a network of support and hassle-free opportunities to advance skills to new levels, including mentored hunts.
