FROM KEY 2 FROM KEY 2 CUTTHROAT TROUT Oncorhynchus clarki IDENTIFICATION Pink markings on underside of jaw. Easily confused with rainbow trout but has no pinkish side stripe. INFORMATION Average size: • Average adult size is 8–15 inches. A master angler is 20 inches or 3 lbs. The Nebraska state record is 5 lbs. 7 oz. Habitat: • Requires cold, well-oxygenated water; can't survive in extended periods in water temperatures over 70 degrees. Can survive year-round in the cold water streams of western and north-central Nebraska. Range: • Uncommon. Stocked periodically in central and north-western Nebraska. BROOK TROUT Salvalinus fontinalis IDENTIFICATION Front edge of lower fi ns edged in white. Mid-section of sides has a few large, black and red spots. Back has mottled or "wormy" lines. INFORMATION Average size: • Average adult size is 5–8 inches. Generally smaller than 10 inches. A master angler is 14 inches or 1 lb. The Nebraska state record is 5 lbs. 1 oz. Habitat: • Requires cold, well-oxygenated water; can't survive in extended periods in water temperatures over 70 degrees. Can survive year-round in the cold water streams of western and north-central Nebraska. Range: • Uncommon.
