Floating The Good Life • Nebraska Game and Parks Commission 51
will provide the public the knowledge of when the access is available for use and aid law
enforcement in monitoring closed hours activity, which will define safe and responsible use to
access the water. Providing this information to the public should be done by posting signage at
the site but can also be accomplished beyond that. Consider what other resources are available
in the forms of website, social media, or local radio and news services to participate in delivering
notice to when the access is open and operational. Contact the Nebraska Game and Parks
Commission, your local Natural Resources District, or other potential groups interested in the
use of the water access to include your site in their information and notification policies. These
resources will reach a wider group of people, promote the water access as a positive recreational
offering and increase awareness of Nebraska's natural water resources.
Keeping an access location well maintained and operational requires a consistent commitment
to fund and tend to; however, it should not be a deterrent from undertaking the worthwhile
project. The public benefits to accommodate recreating on our Nebraska waterways are
meaningful to local residents and visitors alike. Experiencing our natural places builds an increased
awareness of outdoor spaces and the desire to preserve these Nebraska rivers and lakes!
