Visitors to Eugene T. Mahoney and Platte River state parks are also in close vicinity to several well-equipped state recreation areas nestled in the Platte River Valley. e popular park areas are a great choice for group events and team building activities. • e 192-acre Louisville State Recreation Area is a favorite spot among outdoor enthusiasts. e park offers camping, a group picnic shelter, swimming beach, fishing at five sandpit lakes, non-power boating and canoe access to the Platte River. • Schramm Park State Recreation Area – along with the Aksarben Aquarium – is a hidden gem. e park has scenic overlooks on well-maintained wooded trails that are popular with runners, bikers and casual hikers, and bird watchers alike. For those with their own archery equipment, the Larry Elston Archery Range offers standard targets and a walking course with various distance targets. Adjacent to the state recreation area is the historic site of the state's first fish hatchery. Tour the Aksarben Aquarium and enjoy a picnic on the bluffs. • Two Rivers State Recreation Area is one of the most popular state recreation areas in the state. At Two Rivers, you can enjoy excellent fishing, camping, swimming beach and picnicking. Perhaps the most unique draw of this park is its unusual lodging: 10 Union Pacific cabooses that have been refurbished into cabins that sleep six. Other areas within the Platte River Parklands include Memphis and Lake Wanahoo state recreation areas, which offer additional camping and fishing opportunities.
