E L E C T R O N I C R E A L - T I M E D E E R C H E C K Hunters checking in deer during November firearm season in 2014 encountered an entirely new electronic check-in system. Using bar-code scanners, Game and Parks staff read information from hunters' permits into the new online check-in. Staff then entered the deer's age, gender, species, location of kill and other data right into the online database. This new technology streamlines information gathered about deer harvest and eliminates the need to enter hand-written records, saving valuable time. Because the information is entered electronically, biologists have access to real-time data. Staff are now able to process and analyze data much sooner than previous years, and start working on next year's recommendations. 36 Nebraska Game and Parks Commission • 2014 Annual Report
