9 | P a g e Southwest Fisheries District Aquatic Habitat Project List The Southwest Fisheries District encompasses 13 counties. This district has the smallest percent of the state's population at 3% (69,319) with the largest surface acres of water at 47,755 acres between 63 public waters. The district has many I-80 sand pits providing good shoreline access to small waterbodies. The hallmark of this district is the largest reservoir in Nebraska, Lake McConaughy, along with the other southwest irrigation reservoirs.
