13 | P a g e Lake McConaughy SRA/WMA (Keith County) Two perennial streams (Otter and Lonergan) flow into Lake McConaughy on the north side of the reservoir and serve as important habitats for Walleye and White Bass as spawning areas. Enhancing the available habitat utilizing rip rap would be a valuable addition to the recreational fishery in the reservoir. Additionally, if rip rap becomes available during the resurfacing of the dam, the rock could be utilized to target areas of sediment drift and protect cove habitat and boating access. Fluctuating water levels create challenges to provide angler and boater access, but if opportunities are available, extension of boat ramps and access areas could be completed. Goals: Habitat, Access Tasks: a. Add aquatic habitat features, shoreline protection, angler access and fish attracting features possibly utilizing rock rip rap if it becomes available from resurfacing the dam. b. Enhance fish spawning habitat and connectivity in Lonergan and Otter Creeks. c. Improve boat access with low-water ramps. Ownership: Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District Potential Partners: Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District, NGPC Parks Division, Ogallala Chamber of Commerce, Keith County Visitors Bureau. Lake Ogallala SRA (Keith County) Dissolved oxygen has been a major concern in Lake Ogallala since the construction of the hydroelectric power generating facilities in the mid-1980's. Several past projects were completed to address dissolved oxygen issues but were not successful at returning Lake Ogallala to pre-hydro water quality conditions. Solving this problem, would be beneficial to both the Game and Parks Commission and Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District and could help mitigate lost revenue and provide a better fishery for anglers. Goals: Habitat, Prevention, Evaluation Tasks: a. Evaluate the possibility of improving the water quality with aeration or venturi system in the outlet tower within Lake McConaughy. b. Develop screen system to prevent entrainment from Lake McConaughy into Lake Ogallala c. Improve aquatic habitat with construct of floating vegetation mats or exclusion zones protected from Common Carp. Ownership: Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District Potential Partners: Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District, Nebraska Public Power District, Trout Unlimited, NGPC Planning and Programming Division.
