12 2024 Annual Report • Recreation State parks and recreation areas play a vital role in Nebraskans' quality of life, providing places for residents and visitors to spend time outdoors, rejuvenate and connect with others. They also are vital to local economies. Parks visitation Nebraska's state parks are important to our economy and our quality of life, welcoming more than 7 million park guests each year. Popular Nebraska state parks and recreation areas, such as Fort Robinson and Eugene T. Mahoney state parks, are among the top tourist attractions in the state. Popular activities include camping, boating, fi shing, swimming, walking or hiking trails, watching wildlife or attending a special event. Other opportunities include visiting one of Nebraska's nine state historical parks, all of which off er glimpses into the past through modern interpretation. These valuable spaces help ensure we maintain Nebraska's cultural and historical resources. State parks and recreation areas play a vital role in Nebraskans' quality of life, providing places for residents and visitors to spend time outdoors, rejuvenate and connect with others. Strong visitation numbers translate into a stronger, more vibrant park system, as well. Nebraska's state parks are predominantly supported and funded by guest-use, including through lodging and camping fees, parks permit sales and concessions. With these dollars, Nebraska Game and Parks continues to prioritize improvements focused on providing modern, comfortable experiences, adding amenities and off ering new attractions. These ensure state parks and recreation areas meet the growing needs and interests of the public for the long term.
