Cleanup events bring communities together
Community cleanup events across the state introduced beginners to kayaking while
also cleaning up our state's public lands and waters. Nearly 70 community members
participated in one of five cleanup events hosted in July, picking up more than 518 pounds
of trash while also learning about stewardship of our state's waters.
Game and Parks' kayak-certified educators led the events, which were at Carter Lake in
Omaha; Danish Alps State Recreation Area near Hubbard; Iron Horse Lake Park in North
Platte; Lake Minatare SRA near Minatare; and Willow Creek SRA near Pierce.
Afterward, participants said the experience was fulfilling and that they enjoyed
community bonding, making new friends and trying new things.
Kayak cleanup events draw
plenty of interested participants.
