hadron State Park is Nebraska's first state
park, established in 1921, and sits in the
majestic beauty of the Pine Ridge. This great
get-away-from-it-all state park is located 8 miles
south of Chadron on U.S. 385. At an elevation
of nearly 5,000 feet, the 972-acre park lies in
the heart of the Nebraska National Forest and is
dominated by ponderosa pines.
There are 16 rustic cabins available from mid-April
to mid-November and 6 modern duplex cabins
available year round, plus a group meeting room.
(Great for weddings, conferences, and events.)
Chadron State Park boasts a top-notch modern
campground with Electric Plus, Electric, and Basic
sites. Excellent hike/bike trails lace the park and
adjoining U.S. Forest Service lands.
FACILITIES/ACTIVITIES
Chadron State Park offers: a swimming pool,
horseback trail rides, disc golf, tennis and sand
volleyball courts, archery range, crafts, snacks and
souvenirs at the Trading Post, paddle boats on the
pond, fishing, hiking, new indoor pellet and archery
range, picnic tables, picnic shelters (sans (which
can be reserved), water, dump-and-fill station,
showers and modern restrooms.
FISHING
Besides fishing opportunities in the park's pond
and stream, Chadron also serves as an excellent
base camp for exploring a number of Pine Ridge
trout streams.
