68 | Parks Info: 402-471-0641 MORMON ISLAND SRA N amed for the winter camp used by Mormon emigrants in 1884-85, the 152-acre Mormon Island SRA is another highly-developed area in the chain of lakes along I-80. Located at the U.S. 281 exit at Grand Island, Mormon Island SRA sits on the eastern edge of the great spring sandhill crane migration in the central Platte River Valley. Camping facilities include Electric Plus, Electric and Basic campsites, two shower houses and three modern restrooms, a dump-and-fill station, drinking water, picnic tables, grills, picnic shelters, unsupervised swimming beach, and two boat ramps. Boats are restricted to 5 mph on Lake #1 and Lake #2. There is a 31-acre Lake owned by the Department of Transportation with walk-in fishing access from the east boundary of the park. FISHING All fishing lakes offer excellent opportunities to catch largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish. Lake #1 offers muskie fishing. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Phone: 308-385-6211 Email: ngpc.mormon.island@nebraska.gov NORTH LOUP SRA North Loup State Recreation Area is approximately 4 miles north of St. Paul off of Hwy. 281. The 13-acre area is adjacent to the North Loup River and has a seven-acre lake. The area offers fishing, picnicking, Primitive campsites, and primitive restrooms. The seven-acre lake offers bluegill, common carp, channel catfish, crappie and largemouth bass, among other species. Only electric trolling motors and non-powered boats are permitted. There are no ramps or docks. The area does provide access to the North Loup River.
