T
he chance to sleep in an authentic retired
Union Pacific caboose, trout fishing and
camping highlight the opportunities at Two Rivers
SRA. Located on the Platte River south of Venice,
this 622-acre area boasts 320 acres of water in
seven sandpit lakes. Besides a variety of fishing
opportunities and non-powered boating, there is
an unsupervised swim beach and a concession
on site. A wheelchair-accessible fishing pier is
available at Lake 5.
CAMPING
With seven camping areas, the park can handle
everything from tents and horse camping to sites
with electric and water. Two Rivers offers Electric
Plus, Electric and Basic camping. Modern and
primitive restrooms, showers, drinking water and
a dump-and-fill station are available.
UNION PACIFIC CABOOSE PARK CABINS
Ten bright cabooses were repurposed by the
Nebraska Game and Parks Commission to sleep
six. Each contains a small kitchen and bathroom
with shower. They provide a unique lodging
experience from April 15 through September,
and are air conditioned.
FISHING
Two Rivers SRA offers great catch-and-release
fishing for catfish in Lakes 3 and 4. Lakes 1 and
2 are stocked annually with catchable channel
catfish. Quality largemouth bass fishing is
available on Lakes 1 through 4. Rainbow trout
fishing is available seasonally (spring) in Lake 5
(the Trout Lake) for a small fee. Lake 5 is open to
fishing for all other fish species after the trout
season is over. There is a 21-inch length limit on
largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass.
