BACKGROUND
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission protects and manages natural
resources throughout the state to ensure future generations have opportunities to
enjoy the natural world. Game and Parks partnered with Parlay Consulting Firm in
the development of a three-year strategic plan to continue the good work being
done for the state's fish, wildlife, park and outdoor recreation resources. This plan
looks to address challenges and create solutions to maintain balance, resources,
stewardship and opportunities for the public to be outdoors.
This plan was developed through several steps, including:
STAKEHOLDER INTERVIEWS
Parlay Consulting Firm interviewed members of the Commission and its senior
leadership. Interviewees shared insights on what makes employees proud to
work at Game and Parks, successes achieved, organizational challenges, strategic
priorities for the future, types of agency partnerships, and the format of the next
strategic plan.
EMPLOYEE SURVEY
All full-time employees were
surveyed to gain feedback on
the agency. The survey focused
on employee perceptions
of the agency, input on key
values of the agency, opinions
on strategic plan goals, and
what can make the agency
successful in the future. These
results assisted in driving the
strategic priorities and actions
identified in this plan.
VISIONING SESSION
Commission members and
its senior leadership met to
reflect on what makes the
organization successful and to
create a Vision Statement for
this plan. The workshop was
designed to provoke a sense
of inspiration and motivation
about the work done by the
agency and the possibilities for
the future. Group discussions
occurred to identify words and
phrases that could be used to
create the vision statement.
Three statements were drafted,
and a final version was refined
from the number one choice.
