FISH FAMILIES Scales yes/no Adipose Fin yes/no If the fish does not have scales, the skin will be very smooth and soft. This little fin is just a small flap of skin on the back of the fish between tail and top fin. no yes yes no Catfi sh Family (Page 8). Several families of fi sh have skin that is smooth and completely bare, just like our skin. In Nebraska, this includes 5 species of commonly caught Catfi sh Family (Page 8). Trout Family (Page 11). The adipose fi n is a small fl eshy fi n on the back of a trout just in front of the tail. Note: Two family groups of commonly caught Nebraska fi sh have this adipose fi n, Trout Family (Page 11) and Catfi sh Family (Page 8). Go to Key #2.
