FROM KEY 7 WIPER (Hybrid of white bass and striped bass) Morone chrysops x Morone saxatillis IDENTIFICATION Broken lateral lines. Two tooth patches on tongue (usually). Notes: Wipers are hard to distinguish from White Bass. Striped bass are very uncommon in Nebraska. INFORMATION Average size: • Average adult size is 15–20 inches. The Nebraska state record is 20 lb. 1 oz. A master angler is 8 lb. or 24 inches. Habitat: • Found in reservoirs and larger lakes. • Most often found in open water while seeking baitfi sh forage but occasionally nearing shore. • Habits similar to white bass and often caught from the same schools when similarly sized. Range: • Stocked in selected reservoirs statewide. FROM KEY 7 YELLOW BASS Morone mississippiensis IDENTIFICATION Second and third anal spines same length. Stripes on sides. Light yellow body color. INFORMATION Average size: • Average adult size is 5–8 inches in water bodies where the population is not stunted. No Master Angler for this species. State record is 1 lbs. 7 oz. Habitat: • Found in reservoirs, lakes, pits and rivers. Range: • Uncommon but sporadically found in lakes and pits of the Lower-Platte River Valley.
