FROM KEY 1 YELLOW BULLHEAD Ameiurus natalis IDENTIFICATION Barbels under mouth yellow or creamy white. Anal fi n rays 24–27. Brown over entire fi sh with lighter belly. INFORMATION Average size: • Average adult size is much smaller than the channel catfi sh. A master angler is 15 inches long or 2 lbs. The Nebraska state record is 2 lbs. 4 oz. Habitat: • Commonly found in still, shallow and turbid waters with little or no aquatic vegetation. Can handle low oxygen environments. Range: • Eastern half of the state, sporadically. Fly-fi shing for catfi sh at Jenny Newman Lake at Platte River State Park.
