68 Nebraskaland • December 2019 PORTRAITS FROM THE PAST There were bobcats in the Wildcat Hills that bordered Creighton Valley. Early in the morning after a snowstorm was a good time to track the bobcats since there were fresh tracks on the fallen snow. Here is Ernest Johns with two bobcats which he shot in the hills south, looking west on William Johns farm in 1915. The rifle was a Winchester 25-35. – Joan Johns, Omaha Along the North Platte River near the lakes and small streams were geese and ducks to hunt. In this image, William Johns, sons Ernest and Harry, cousins Bill Short and Bill Dorsch hunting geese there in 1915. These sports were great times for Billy, his sons and friends. – Joan Johns, Omaha
