THE PARTICIPANTS » NGPC staff that included local Fort Atkinson staff, agency park superintendents, NGPC planners, and a design consultant developed a historically themed natural playscape. » Management of the playscape will be conducted by the local park staff. » NGPC Planning staff will remain involved with this pilot project. THE PROCESS » Held design charrette that determined two locations and identified preferred location for natural playscape. » This natural playscape will evolve over 10 years and coincide with master plan improvements scheduled for the park. » Grants will be used as a major source of funding due to the historical and educational components of this natural playscape. » Historically themed natural playscape will be vetted with Nebraska History. THE SITE » The site was chosen based on proximity to current events and structures, including an existing parking lot and a future events venue. » The site is an area not currently being used, except for overflow parking for the larger events held at the park. » An alternate site near the visitors center was discussed and will continue to be monitored for future potential depending on park development. This conceptual design could be used anywhere in the park. PLAN INSPIRATION PLAN DESIGN MANAGE EXAMPLES
