Our strategic plan Nebraska Game and Parks Commission's 2022-2025 strategic plan, Focus on the Future, has three strategic directions for ensuring the future of Nebraska's wildlife and wild places. We completed our third year of implementation in 2025. Our strategic plan focused on three key areas: • Caring for our resources: We emphasize sustainable management of fish and wildlife, ensuring the continuation of Nebraska's rich biodiversity. • Developing our team: We're committed to fostering a passionate, engaged workforce dedicated to our mission. • Engaging with and serving the public: By offering a wide range of public events and educational programs, we aim to connect people with nature and promote active stewardship of our natural environments. Wildlife management areas provide wildlife habitat and public access. Nebraska Game and Parks also oversees the Open Fields and Waters program, which enrolls private lands for walk-in access for hunting, fishing and trapping. • a record 471,646 land acres are enrolled in Open Fields and Waters, including 41.8 stream miles and 39 ponds and lakes. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission owns or manages a number of properties around the state for recreational use or for the conservation of wildlife, including: • 8 state parks, comprising 31,994 acres • 60 state recreation areas, comprising 65,427 acres • 10 state historical parks, comprising 2,497 acres • 2 state recreation trails, comprising 4,144 acres and 324 miles • 5 fish hatcheries, which raise and stock 57 million fish in 300 public waters • 281 wildlife management areas, encompassing 184,435 acres By the numbers View Our Impact in numbers on pages 8-9.
