Service 35 Nebraska Game and Parks Commission 2025 Annual Report Game and Parks staff recognized for excellence through state and national awards In 2025, Nebraska Game and Parks staff received multiple awards and honors recognizing leadership, innovation and dedication to conservation, education and public service. These awards underscore the impact of Nebraska Game and Parks staff in conservation, education and enhancing outdoor experiences for all Nebraskans. • Adam Kester, Access Program Manager, received the inaugural Public Lands Hero Award from the Nebraska Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers. Kester expanded the Open Fields and Waters program, launched the Canyons Access Initiative, and grew the Elk Hunter Access Program to nearly 60,000 acres across four elk units, contributing to more than 435,000 acres of public access in 2024-25. • Ted LaGrange, Wetland Program Manager, received the Wetlands Conservation Legacy Award from Ducks Unlimited at the North American Fish and Wildlife Conference. Over his 33-year career, Ted has protected and restored more than 100,000 acres of wetlands, secured over $112 million in grants for conservation initiatives, and coauthored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications. • Keith Hurley earned the Employee Enterprise Award for his outstanding leadership in developing FinCatch, a groundbreaking fisheries data system that has streamlined data collection and management, reducing staff time in the field, lab and office while improving accuracy. • Larry Pape was recognized for his long-standing contributions to the Aquatic Resources Education Association, including his recent service as President. Larry's efforts have promoted aquatic education nationwide, fostering learning and engagement in communities across the country. • Karen Becker was nominated for an Excellence in Tourism Award, recognizing her exceptional customer service and dedication to helping nearly 600,000 annual visitors enjoy North Platte's natural resources, from camping and fishing to hunting. • The Communications and Outreach Team received 10 national awards from the Association for Conservation Information, celebrating their efforts to educate the public and promote Nebraska's outdoor opportunities through outreach, publications and media. Game and Parks launches employee recognition program In 2025, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission launched a new Employee Recognition Program to honor staff who go above and beyond in conserving Nebraska's natural resources and enhancing outdoor recreation. We know our employees make a lasting impact every day, and this program ensures their efforts are celebrated. Awards recognize a range of achievements, including years of service, innovation, outstanding contributions to the agency's mission, and living Game and Parks' values. The program also connects to the statewide Governor's Employee Recognition Program, giving top performers a chance to be celebrated at the state level. By highlighting our employees, we not only celebrate our people but strengthen our mission.
