Cowboy Trail Master Plan Public Information Sessions Scheduled in December

November 23, 2015 Jerry Kane

LINCOLN – The public is invited to attend any of six public information sessions in December and comment on the development of a master plan for the Cowboy Recreation and Nature Trail.

Staff from the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and the Nebraska Tourism Commission will make short presentations at the beginning of each session. Anyone in attendance then will be able to comment on what they would like to see included in the master plan.

Game and Parks has operated and maintained the Cowboy Trail since being given that responsibility by the Nebraska Legislature in 1994. “We feel it is important to go out and meet with our neighbors and partners along the trail and get their input as we develop this master plan,” Planning and Programming Division Administrator Michelle Stryker said. “The master plan will provide direction to staff and information to the public on what to expect over the next 20 years of our management of the Cowboy Trail.”

Following is a schedule of the public information sessions: Ainsworth – Dec. 8, 7 p.m., Elks Club, 111 E. 3rd St.; O’Neill – Dec. 9, 7 p.m., Holt County Economic Development Office, 330 E. Hancock St.; Norfolk – Dec. 10, 7 p.m., Lifelong Learning Center, 801 E. Benjamin Ave.; Chadron – Dec. 15, 3 p.m., Upper Niobrara White Natural Resources District Office, 430 E. 2nd St.; Rushville – Dec. 15, 7 p.m., Security First Retail Center, 110 E. 2nd St.; and Valentine – Dec. 16, 7 p.m., Niobrara National Scenic River Visitor Center, 214 W. U.S. Highway 20.

The public is encouraged to attend a session, even to make plans to attend one at an alternate location if a session closest to them is canceled because of weather.

Game and Parks will accept public comments on issues relating to the Cowboy Trail until Dec. 31, 2015. Comments may be emailed to Planning and Programming Division Assistant Administrator Kirk Nelson at kirk.nelson@nebraska.gov.
