History is part of the stories of people and places
that make Nebraska's past come to life. Our
historical parks are strong contributors to Nebraska's
legacy and heritage tourism. These parks are rich
in history, and their recreational opportunities and
natural resources provide unique experiences for
visitors. Balancing recreational use with preservation
and protection of cultural resources continues to be
a fundamental component of the agency. Striking
this balance is increasingly difficult due to budget
constraints, aging infrastructure and antiquated
technology that interpret these resources. We must
proactively inventory resources at these parks,
including archeological and paleontological assets
and increase our volunteer partnerships to assist in
interpreting the resources that we manage.
