12 | Hunting Info: 402-471-0641 PARTRIDGE Season dates – Oct. 29 – Jan. 31, 2017 Daily bag/possession limits – 3/12 Open area – statewide, but no hunting on all state refuges and sanctuaries GROUSE Includes: prairie chicken and sharp-tailed grouse East Zone: Season dates – Sept. 1 – Jan. 31, 2017 Daily bag/possession limits – 3/3 Open area – east of U.S. Highway 81 Special grouse permits – Required, along with a hunting permit, for hunting grouse east of U.S. Highway 81; also: • Requests are accepted at the Game and Parks headquarters in Lincoln starting July 15. • They are free of charge, limited in number to 400 and limited to one per hunter. • They are available on a rst-come basis. • Requests are accepted by phone at 402-471- 5410, over the counter, by fax or by mail. • Information required for application includes name, address, date of birth, telephone number and 2016 Nebraska Hunting Permit number or Lifetime Hunting Permit number. Residents ages 12 to 15 must submit a Hunter Education certication number. Those not required to purchase a Hunting Permit must provide documentation of such exemption (seniors, veterans, landowners, etc.). West Zone: Season dates – Sept. 1 – Jan. 31, 2017 Daily bag/possession limits – 3/12 Open area – west of U.S. Highway 81 Remarks – No special permit required. PHEASANT Season dates – Oct. 29 – Jan. 31, 2017 Daily bag/possession limits – 3/12 Open area – statewide, but no hunting on all state refuges and sanctuaries Remarks – Only rooster pheasants may be harvested. YOUTH PHEASANT, QUAIL AND PARTRIDGE * Season dates – Oct. 22 - 23, 2016 Youth hunter daily bag/possession limits – 2/4 rooster pheasants, 2/4 quail, 2/4 partridge Open area – statewide, but no hunting on all state refuges and sanctuaries * Special Youth Hunt – Youth may hunt pheasants, quail or partridge. Adults accompanying youths during the Oct. 22-23 season may hunt pheasants only on the following wildlife management areas where a special hunt is declared and posted: Oak Valley Wilkinson Sherman Reservoir Cornhusker Peru Bottoms Pressey Branched Oak Yankee Hill Twin Oaks Hickory Ridge Tobacco Island Schilling Arrowhead George Syas The bag limit for the accompanying adults is one rooster pheasant, and the bag limit for youth is two roosters. All other youth and regular season regulations will be in effect. Adults accompanying youth elsewhere may not hunt. Only one adult mentor per youth will be allowed to hunt. HUNTER SURVEY At the end of each season, hunters who provided email addresses at the time they purchased their permits may receive an e-mail survey that is used to determine hunter success and total harvest. It is important when buying permits online that hunters use an updated email address. Survey results are posted at OutdoorNebraska.org. (continued on page 13)
