2 ABOUT THE PUBLIC ACCESS ATLAS The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has joined with Pheasants Forever, Inc. (PF), National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF), the Nebraska Environmental Trust, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Natural Resources Districts (NRDs), landowners, private organizations, and government agencies to deliver a guide to publicly accessible land statewide. This Public Access Atlas identifies and consolidates these access resources for the benefit of our hunters, trappers and anglers. By working together, these agencies aim to enhance wildlife habitat and increase hunting, fishing and trapping opportunities in Nebraska. AVAILABLE FORMATS OF THIS ATLAS The Public Access Atlas is available in the following formats: • Printed hard copy – Available wherever hunting, trapping, and fishing permits are sold. • Digital atlas – Visit OutdoorNebraska.org, then click on Guides and scroll down to Public Access Atlas. Maps are printable. • Digital printable map sheets – Both digital printable map sheets and interactive map versions also may be accessed at OutdoorNebraska.org, then search for Public Access Atlas. • Explorer for ArcGIS mobile app – Explorer for ArcGIS allows you to interact with maps via mobile device. Download the app at the Play Store or Apple Store. • Interactive map – Visit OutdoorNebraska.org, then click on Maps and then Public Access Atlas. Our Interactive map provides users the opportunity to scout out public access sites before going hunting by using aerial imagery or topography base maps with zoom functionality. Click on individual sites and retrieve the site details along with the option to get driving directions for easy navigation. ACCURACY OF THIS ATLAS Some enrolled sites – including all wheat and milo stubble sites – are not included in this printed atlas because of printing dates or other circumstances. In addition, there could be sites included in this publication that have been removed from the program following printing. The digital and interactive map versions of the atlas will be updated throughout the year and will be the most accurate versions. Information within this atlas is gathered from several sources and updated annually to provide the most accurate information available on road locations, types and accessibility. OPEN FIELDS AND WATERS PROGRAM Public access programs for hunting, trapping, and fishing on private lands are important to Nebraska because of the state's limited amount of public land. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and partner organizations work closely with hundreds of private landowners who voluntarily participate in private land access programs. The Open Fields and Waters (OFW) program provides financial incentives to landowners who allow public walk-in hunting, trapping and angling access. Enrolling land in this program also allows landowners to work with Game and Parks biologists to improve wildlife habitat. These programs have opened more than 284,000 acres of private land, including 405 acres of open waters and 41 miles of river, to public hunting, trapping and fishing in Nebraska. 2 Below: Example of interactive map.
